Fly-tippers have illegally dumped a colossal 30 tons of rubbish on a Leicestershire industrial estate.
The mountain of rotting filth was left on the Burrows Industrial Estate in East Goscote.
Environmental officials at Charnwood Borough Council, who are investigating the incident, say it is the largest single amount of dumped rubbish they have ever dealt with.
Enforcement officers are appealing for witnesses after the waste was tipped some time between 10:30pm on December 11 and 7am on December 12.
The rubbish was tipped by the side of a road near the gates to a Jelson building site. It is understood the developer was due to clear the pile up this morning.
The rubbish pile contained wood, metal, plastic, toys and other household and commercial waste.
The council's senior enforcement officer Chris Cary, said: "When we turned up on the scene we were shocked. It was horrendous. We've never seen a fly-tip quite like it.
"From the size of it and other evidence recovered from the scene, we believe the waste has been in some sort of compacting equipment for a number of years and must have been brought in by a large vehicle and dumped.
"Because it would have cost quite a bit of money to dispose of this legally, we think the offender has done this to save cash."
The council is hoping someone may have seen something that could help trace the offenders so they can be prosecuted.
The council's cabinet member for regulatory services councillor Jane Hunt said: "I can't quite believe that someone would have the audacity to dump this amount of waste in our borough or anywhere other than a commercial tip for that matter.
"I was absolutely horrified when I saw it.
"There is all sorts in there, including what looks like a snowboard."
"Our annual Don't Muck Around campaign aims to raise awareness about fly-tipping and how we do not tolerate it in Charnwood. We will pursue all lines of enquiry to bring the offenders in this case to justice as this kind of disregard for the environment is abhorrent."
