A man was taken to hospital after a bus carrying six passengers was involved in a collision with a van.

The accident happened at the junction of Hastings Road and Tailby Avenue, in Northfields, Leicester, shortly before 1.30pm yesterday.

One man – thought to be a passenger on the single-decker Arriva bus – was taken to hospital. Details of his condition have not been released.

A woman, also believed to be a passenger, was assessed at the scene by paramedics.

The collision involved a number 58 Hamilton bus and a FedEx parcel delivery van.

Two fire crews from the Leicester's Eastern fire station, in nearby Hastings Road, attended the incident.

Police closed Hastings Road at its junction with Overton Road while they dealt with the incident.

"By the time local management had arrived, four of the six passengers had made their way to their destinations.

"Two were at the scene being checked over by the emergency services. There were no injuries reported to the driver.
