A boy who suffered head injuries after being hit by a car has been discharged from hospital.

Josh Robinson, 15, was involved in an accident on the way to school in Syston last Friday.

The teenager, from Thurmaston – a year 11 pupil at Wreake Valley Academy – was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary, then transferred to the Queen's Medical Centre, Nottingham.

Head teacher Tony Pinnock said: "It is fantastic news to hear Josh is back home.

"Everyone at school has been worried about him and we are all delighted he is back with his family."

Mr Pinnock said schoolmates had raised £200 to buy Josh a new jacket.

He said: "The three or four friends who witnessed the accident knew Josh's new jacket was ruined.

"Out of school time, they got together and raised the money. I think they are going to get a new jacket and might have a bit of change for some computer games.

"It is a lovely gesture and shows how highly-regarded Josh is. The year 11s are a great bunch and this is typical of them."

Josh was hit by the car at 8.47am on Friday, near the junction of St Peters Street and Melton Road.
