Nine drivers have been rescued by firefighters in Leicestershire in seven separate incidents after their vehicles became stranded in flood waters. Today a man was rescued by firefighters using an inflatable sled after becoming marooned 100m into flood waters on Syston Road, Cossington.  Another man waded through a knee-deep flood to safety after his car became stuck in water which came up to the doors of his vehicle on Sileby Lane, Mountsorrel. Another vehicle became stranded in Braunstone Lane East, Leicester, which had to be closed by police. Fire service manager Neil Mayne, who specialises in water rescues, has urged the public to take care. He said: "Owing to the large amount of rain we are experiencing locally we recommend that members of the public carefully plan any journeys. "Use maps to avoid any ford crossings or areas you know are prone to flooding. "Two feet of moving water is enough to move a car or a 4x4 vehicle. Do not attempt to drive or walk through water of an unknown depth because you won't know it's too deep until it's too late. "Anyone who finds a road that is flooded with no warning signs should telephone Leicestershire County Council on 0116 305 0001 to pass on details.
