A "spiritual healer" appeared at Leicester Magistrates' Court today charged with blackmail and fraud.
Mohammed Ashrafi (49) has been charged with one count of blackmail, and one charge of fraud by false representation in relation to "facilitating a £60 million Euro lottery win".
Ashrafi is alleged to have defrauded a woman out of £10,000 through a healing and astrology service advertised in Leicester, and to have obtained £50,000 through blackmail.
The Indian national, in the UK on a six-month working visa, spoke through a Hindi interpreter to confirm his name, age and address, which he gave as Pannier Place, Milton Keynes.
Prosecutor Julie Facer said the alleged offences occurred between January 1 and February 28 this year.
Magistrate Rick Moore remanded Ashrafi into custody.
Ashrafi's next court appearance will be at Leicester Crown Court later this month.
