Leicester City v Burnley: Striker David Nugent - We all want to get new deals sorted

Striker David Nugent has urged Leicester City not to allow Nigel Pearson's squad to break up before they have had the chance to fulfil their potential.

Nugent is one of 11 players out of contract at the end of the season – Wes Morgan, Kasper Schmeichel, Paul Konchesky, Lloyd Dyer, Sean St Ledger, Marcin Wasilewski, Zak Whitbread, Neil Danns, Martyn Waghorn and Gary Taylor-Fletcher – and none of them have signed new deals yet.

The striker said there was a general feeling that the players want to remain with City as they feel they are on the cusp of bringing success to the club.

Nugent hopes his own personal situation will be sorted and re-affirmed his desire to remain at the King Power Stadium.

"There's no change in the contract situation, it's still the same," he said.

"Hopefully in the Christmas period when the transfer window reopens, we can get it sorted.

"It's not just me, it's Kasper, Lloyd Dyer and Wes. This team is a close-knit bunch and we all want to stay together. We have a great team ethic, great squad harmony and we want to stay together.

"We talk about it in the changing room and don't know what's happening yet. We all want to sign our deals and we are all talking about it.

"It's a dangerous situation as some of the lads can start talking to other clubs. But none of us want to do that, we all want to stay at Leicester.

"I've never known a closer-knit bunch of lads. There is no bad egg in the team, we enjoy playing and training together."

Despite losing the last two games, away at Sheffield Wednesday and Brighton, Nugent feels City will soon get their promotion challenge back on track.

"We weren't good on the day on both occasions, but we know we can play much better," he said.

"These two league games now (against Burnley and QPR) are absolutely massive.

"These are the best two teams to play in the Championship and we know that if we beat them, we will go back to the top of the league. That is a great incentive to have."
