A woman has suffered head injuries in an attack in Spinney Hill park last night.
The victim is believed to have been assaulted in the park but managed to make her way about 150 yards to East Park Road, where she is understood to have been found by passers-by.
She was taken to Leicester Royal Infirmary.
Police say her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
This morning, a section of pavement was cordoned off at the junction of East Park Road and St Saviours Road, near the NatWest bank.
There were also two cordons in Spinney Hill Park - one around the ball park and one up at the bowling green.
Detective Sergeant Ed Jones, who was at the scene this morning, said: "The investigation is still in its very early stages."
