The Dean of Leicester Cathedral has written to the High Court in a bid to speed up the judicial review into the reinterment of Richard III. A group calling itself the Plantagenet Alliance - made up of relatives of Richard III - has publicly opposed the reburial of the former Yorkist king in Leicester. The group says the Ministry of Justice licence which gives the University of Leicester the authority to reinter the remains wherever it sees fit should be revoked. It has called for a judicial review into the licence, but is still waiting to find a judge who will agree to hear the case. The university, city council and Cathedral have said they are confident that the case will be thrown out. However, plans for the reinterment ceremony, which will take place next spring, could be affected should a High Court judge agree to hear the case. The Dean of Leicester, the Very Reverend David Monteith, has written to the national Administrative Court requesting that the process should be pushed through and the case heard as soon as possible. He said: "We are proud to have the privilege to reinter Richard III and we are working to ensure this is done in a timely manner that honours him as befits both his Kingship and his humanity. "We know the University of Leicester has a very strong case to defend the challenge to the terms of the licence and we feel it should be heard at the earliest opportunity." The Administrative Court is a specialist court within the Queen's Bench Division of the High Court of Justice of England and Wales. It deals mainly with administrative law matters.
