Police are at the scene of an armed siege in Thurmaston following reports that a man fired a gun in a garden of a house.
Officers were called at 5.11pm today after reports the firearm had been discharged outside the home in Manston Close.
They arrived at the scene to find a man had locked himself into the property.
Police have closed Manston Close and cordoned off part of Barkby Thorpe Lane, and told nearby residents to stay inside.
A police spokesman said: "Specialist officers are dealing with the situation."
There is not thought to be anyone else in the property.
A nearby resident said: "The police won't let us leave the house. There's about six police cars and police blocking traffic from coming anywhere near . There's a police dog going round but I can't see anything else."
