Two people have been taken to hospital after a serious collision on the A46 near Thrussington.
Emergency services were called to the scene at just before 5pm today.
It is understood that two vehicles, both cars, were involved in the incident.
Fire crews from Birstall and Loughborough attended and used cutting gear to free one of the casualties, who were both in the same vehicle.
The air ambulance was also called out.
A police spokeswoman said: "One of the casualties wes taken by air ambulance to Nottingham's Queen's Medical Centre with potentially life-changing injuries.
"They are not thought to be life-threatening."
She added: "The other person was taken by road to Leicester Royal Infirmary."
Their condition is not yet known.
The southbound carriageway remains closed between the Thrussington turn and Ratcliffe on the Wreake while the force's serious collision investigation team examine the scene.
