Bolton Wanderers in talks to sign Leicester City's Jermaine Beckford

Bolton Wanderers are in talks with Leicester City about signing striker Jermaine Beckford, the Mercury understands.

The Trotters are looking to bolster their striking options for another promotion push next season and have opened negotiations for the 29-year-old, who has completely fallen out of the picture at City under manager Nigel Pearson.

Beckford made five appearances for City at the start of the campaign, but has spent nearly the entire season on loan at Huddersfield Town.

The former Leeds United and Everton striker has two years left to run on his contract and City want to sell to free up his wages for future squad strengthening.

But they are resigned to losing the majority of the £2.5 million they spent on him when Sven-Goran Eriksson signed him nearly two years ago. However, they want to recoup some of their outlay.

Beckford was signed just 40 minutes before the transfer window closed in August, 2011, and finished the season with 15 goals.
