County Hall's Liberal Democrat group re-elected its leadership at its annual general meeting. The party's members on Leicestershire County Council met on Monday afternoon in the aftermath of Thursday's election, won by the Conservatives. Councillor Simon Galton, representing the Launde division, was re-elected as group leader unchallenged. Coun Sarah Hill, for the Harborough East division, was also re-elected as deputy leader unopposed. The party selected her as chairman of the council's health scrutiny panel. The Liberal Democrats share of councillors fell from 14 to 13 after the election but they held on to their position as the council's main opposition party. Labour has ten seats, the Tories 30 and UKIP two.
