The parents of Madeleine McCann have said the rescue of three women who were apparently held against their will for more than a decade in America has "reaffirmed" their hope of finding their daughter.
Kate and Gerry McCann, of Rothley, issued a statement after this week's events in Ohio, which came days after the couple marked the sixth anniversary of Madeleine's disappearance.
Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michele Knight, who all went missing in separate incidents 10 years ago, were found in a house in Cleveland after allegedly being held there by three brothers.
The McCanns said in a statement: "The discovery of these young women reaffirms our hope of finding Madeleine, which has never diminished.
"Their recovery is also further evidence that children are sometimes abducted and kept for long periods.
"So we ask the public to remain vigilant in the ongoing search for Madeleine.
"Our thoughts are with the women in America and their families."
Mrs McCann is currently visiting Portugal.
Madeleine was nearly four when she disappeared from her family's holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Algarve, on May 3, 2007.
