Leicestershire County Councillor Rob Fraser has joined UKIP. Coun Fraser, who was first elected in 1991, had been a Conservative Councillor until September last year. He resigned from the Conservative Group and had been representing his constituents in Groby and Ratby as an Independent. When he resigned from the Tories last year, Coun Fraser said "they are in a mess and I do not wish to be a part of that". Coun Fraser's decision follows former Leicestershire County Council deputy leader David Sprason who announced today he is quitting the Tories to join UKIP. Coun Sprason defected from the Conservative Party and is the councillor for Markfield, Desford and Thornton. Coun Fraser said: "I made a difficult choice, to leave a Party which I had represented in Leicestershire for over 20 years. I made that choice because it became apparent to me that the Conservative Party had forgotten the reasons why it was elected in the first place. "In contrast, I'm delighted to now be a member of a Party which values civil liberties and traditional moral values as much as I do, leaving me much better placed to represent the views of local residents in my division " Roger Helmer MEP, who joined UKIP from the Conservative Party just over a year ago, said: "I'm delighted that we now have two UKIP County Councillors in Leicestershire. Councillor Fraser is a natural campaigner who cares deeply about common sense, traditional values. He will be a huge asset to our Party and we will do all we can to ensure that he is re-elected in May as a UKIP County Councillor for Groby & Ratby."
