Ramnaresh Sarwan looks set to start the new season in Leicestershire colours.
However, it appears that Sarwan, the County skipper, will figure in just the first five County Championship games before switching to the West Indies' Champions Trophy campaign in England.
"We are hopeful that 'Ronnie' will play the first part of the Championship season before the Champions' Trophy," said County chief executive Mike Siddall.
"I think that is the best we could have hoped for, given that he has worked his way back into the international fold."
Sarwan, who was recalled to the West Indies squad for the recent one-day series against Australia and Zimbabwe, is unlikely to be available for the Foxes after the Champions Trophy, with a new T20 Caribbean Premier League due to start in July.
Leicestershire chairman Paul Haywood had been asked about the complicated situation with Sarwan at the club's annual meeting on Tuesday.
"We have contingencies," Haywood told the meeting. "(Head coach) Phil Whitticase has spoken to someone who can fill the position."
Haywood added that the club was looking at another batsman to step in for Sarwan, who proved a major success on and off the field last season, and will leave a considerable hole to fill in both four-day and one-day cricket.
The meeting saw both Haywood and Andrew York re-elected to the Grace Road board of directors, while David Wilson was re-elected as the club president.
Haywood paid tribute to Wilson's continued support for the club, in particular his backing of the Leicestershire Young Cricketers Education Trust (LYCET).
"I and everyone at the club would like to thank David for what he has done with LYCET, and what he has invested in the club," said Haywood.
"We all owe him a big debt because that has enabled us to continue bringing forward young cricketers."
Haywood pointed to a County squad that is brimming with players who have come through the age group and academy system, with the likes of James Sykes, Tom Wells, Ben Collins and Shiv Thakor the latest to make their names in the professional game.
"At the end of last season we were playing a very young, inexperienced side but we were winning games in the championship and Pro40," said the County chairman.
"We are still producing the cricketers we need to produce. That is a big plus."
