Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson said the capture of teenage striker Harry Kane will strengthen his attacking options during the vital promotion run-in.

The 19-year-old joined City on loan from Tottenham for the rest of the season, and will go straight into the squad for tomorrow's trip to Blackpool.

Kane's arrival means Pearson now has six strikers to choose from as City look to get their automatic promotion challenge back on track at Bloomfield Road.

Pearson said the signing will give his squad a boost after they suffered three consecutive defeats.

"Harry will hopefully bring more goals and fresh impetus," said Pearson.

"It keeps the competition for places strong.

"He is a player we know quite a lot about. I am delighted that we have been able to secure him for our squad.

"Hopefully, it will be a positive move all around. With loan deals, everyone wins.

"For us at this stage of the season, I have always said that, if we are to bring anyone in, they have to improve us, and I think he does that.

"He can play as a wide striker or central striker, and he is a decent size as well. We have got another option in forward positions.

"It is always important that if you bring any players in on loan, they have to have a hunger for success.

"I am confident we have got another player coming into our ranks who will bring a lot of positive qualities to the squad.

"We have had the opportunity to bring him in and I am very happy we have been able to do that."

Kane, who has been capped 14 times at under-19 level by England and has scored six goals, came through the youth ranks at White Hart Lane.

He has made just one Premier League appearance for Spurs but has played in the Europa League for them this season, and has previously gained experience during loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall and Norwich.

He scored for Millwall in the 2-1 defeat of City at the New Den in April last year.

Kane also made five appearances for the Canaries this season before being recalled by Spurs.
