A landmark building which has been largely empty for over a decade could be sold.

The agent in charge of finding a new owner for St George's Central – widely known as the Blue Tower – said although a serious bid for the Leicester site had stalled, he was hopeful of moving it forward.

Kevin Mersh, a director at commercial agent Savills, said he hoped to revive the bid, made by a property developer, after it hit legal issues.

The 22-storey building, in St George's Way, has occupants for about a quarter of the site, include a Premier Inn hotel.

"It was in solicitors' hands to sell the property to a particular party, but that has not proceeded," said Mr Mersh.

"We are progressing discussions with that party and a number of others.

"We are only interested in selling the whole thing.

"These are specialist property companies, people that only specialise in owning and developing property."

St George's Central was effectively repossessed by Anglo Irish Bank in 2009 from developer Magnet Property Investments.
